Jamghat Night Walk into the life of street children around JAMA MASJID and OLD DELHI AREA , 5th March 2010
forced to live in harsh health-impeding conditions. You can help raise
awareness and bring Delhi a step closer to eradicating this issue by
working with or aiding Jamghat. Jamghat is a Delhi based NGO working
towards rehabilitation of street children into the mainstream. Founded
in 2003 we have a shelter housing 15 children, where we have
rehabilitated around 50 children by now. A day care facility is also
running for the children living in old Delhi area. It offers the
children a chance to use sanitized washroom facilities, basic
education, vocational training, weekly checkups from a doctor, and a
chance to play. Jamghat uses the street and stage theatre as a medium
to build self confidence in their children and also build awareness in
the society on key social issues related to the lives and stories of
children, especially street children.
Every month Jamghat organizes a walk into the life of street children
around JAMA MASJID and OLD DELHI AREA. The aim of the project is to
generate awareness about street children living in Delhi and to help
them in living a life of their choice in a healthy way. The program is
undertaken during the night when most of the people finish off their
days work and recede back to their secure homes and these children are
left alone on the streets to battle through the evils of night. Their
night life offers them many difficulties rendered through their exposed
surrounding. It is then that their true nature of surviving in such a
non conducive environment is brought to life. We interact with them and
increase our awareness about them and their life. The main objective is
to understand the difficulty of being a street child.
We would like you to join us on this Night Walk on March 5, 2010, 8 pm
onwards at Golcha Cinema, Daryaganj.
Your participation in this walk will do a great deal in helping the
street children of Delhi. So please join on this evening and help
support an important cause.
Essential Points:
1) The group is not allowed to carry cameras
2) If a girl/ woman is a part of the group, she is requested to dress
in an India suit, or jeans with a full sleeved top. This is to ensure
safety.
3) It is prohibited to give money to any children seen on the streets.
4) Have dinner and come!
It would be really great if you could pass this message to your friends
and bring them along as well so that we can create awareness amongst
masses.

8-Day Academy
- 8-Day Academy is an initiative by Masarat Daud, a 26-year-old Indian girl who has lived in Dubai all her life. In February 2009, to escape the monotony and creativity demise of her high-flying job, she quit work to return to her village (Fatehpur Shekhavati) in Rajasthan, India t lead social change.
In February 2009, she trained 17 village school teachers in Computers. In a few months, these teachers had taught Computers to 100 students!
The 8-Day Academy makes literacy viral and in just eight days because rural communities cannot afford to wait for four years to finish a degree and THEN use the education. The 'bottom of the pyramid' are the people who will lead to major social change.
8-Day Academy also believes in the power of TED and Masarat is creating the first TEDx conference in India with a rural audience in January 19, 2010 (@TEDxShekhavati on Twitter)

Amrita Choudhary is your average Rajasthani village woman but in reality, she's far from it. Her courage makes her stand out. Forced into child marriage, she has stood against her in-laws to defend her rights--including a standoff with a Police official late night who was sent by her enemies to harass her. She has started her organisation in Rajasthan (India) to give voice to women and children who face oppression
Mohd. Nazmuddin, a graduate of 8-Day Academy talks about how the last year of 8DA has changed his life. He also speaks what the first TEDx in Rajasthan (TEDxShekhavati) did for him.

# Spare some of your precious time to teach the children. This does not mean you have be a qualified teacher. The little children have yet so much to learn. Qualified teachers, including those retired, will of course be able to make a tremendous contribution to the educational needs of the older children. Just a few hours of your time, even if only at the weekends or whenever you have the time, will be much appreciated.
# Your old clothes could be the finery our children wear.
# Even a one-eyed teddy bear could mean hours of fun and bring a smile on their faces.
# Foodstuff, particularly dry provision (grains, pulses) & preserves (pickels, jams), are easy to store... We have only two domestic refrigerators.
# Bed linen, towels and toiletries (soaps, talcum powder, washing soaps) would help them live a healthy life.
# Your love and affection... show these children you care by spending some time with them.

Youth for Change - the Parivartan Internship Program
YOUTH FOR CHANGE PARIVARTAN FOUNDATION FOR SOCIO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
What Parivartan Does
The Parivartan Foundation for Socio Economic Development is a non-profit organization working in the developmental sector in India. It strives to make a sustainable difference in society by encouraging inclusive growth in community development and welfare programs. It is the brainchild of youth who dare to make a change as they dream of it.
“Be the change you want to see in the world” - Mahatma Gandhi
With these immortal words of Gandhi. Parivartan was conceptualised by a group of students who shared a common passion; that of inclusive growth. With sustainability and inclusive growth as the twin pillars of support, the Parivartan Foundation aims at grass root development using solutions which are both market based and sustainable. Our mission is “to be a partner of the people in empowering them through resources, technology and information”. Our unique work structure is complemented by the community mobilization and immersion programs which have been imperative in our rapid success in less than a year of inception. We have won the Goldman Sachs Global Leaders Program Social Entrepreneurship Fund and many other such grants from individual and corporate donors. Our success stories and felicitations can be seen at our Flickr Page and Website!
The Internship Program (Youth for Change)
The Parivartan Internship Program, as the name suggests envisions the bridging of gap between youth and young professionals who feel the need to “give back to society” in whatever capacity they desire and the backward societies which need them. This program intends to create a network of change makers who share a passion for community development initiatives using market based and entrepreneurial solutions at the grass root level. We at Parivartan Foundation aim to engage such like-minded individuals from their respective sectors in a cohesive approach to develop sustainable solutions. By getting experts from their sectors, we believe to create an inclusive growth model which is both scalable and replicable. In this regard, we aim to map the immense human resource potential in different sectors to the projects and initiatives of Parivartan Foundation.

Nearly 70 kms from the city of Vijayawada and set in the Krishna river basin, these villages form small islands in delta region thereby giving the name “Lanka”. The Parivartan Foundation has worked 9 months in these villages and the current work happening there can be viewed at our website.
